The southernmost country of the African continent, South Africa is bordered by Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Eswatini. South Africa entirely surrounds Lesotho in the east. A large plateau dominates the centre of the country, with rolling hills falling to plains and the coast.

South Africa is beguiling in its variety. It’s confident, cosmopolitan Cape Town but it’s also big game viewing in Kruger National Park, the farmsteads and valleys of the Winelands, and the remote, wild Elephant Coast.

You could learn about the country’s colonial past in the battlefields of KwaZulu Natal, or focus on its more recent history with a visit to Robben Island. Take a relaxed road trip along the Garden Route, enjoying views over the wave-lashed coast. Or go on a Big Five safari in the Eastern Cape. Meanwhile, rail journeys traversing South Africa’s mountain ranges, grasslands, and semi-arid Karoo Desert allow you to see the country’s untouched, far-flung areas.

Weather:
The best time to visit South Africa is from May to September, as the cooler winter months in the northern regions bring superb conditions for viewing big game. It can be rainy from November to February, but this is the best time to travel for birding, and temperatures remain warm at 22°C-33°C.
However, South Africa is a year-round destination, with varying regional climates and wildlife opportunities.

Visa:
There are no visa restrictions for EU citizens. However, a valid passport should be valid for six month after the end of your journey and should have two free opposite pages.

Currency:
The official currency is the South African Rand ( ZAD ). EU bank cards with Maestro sign and can be used at all cash machines with the Maestro sign.All major credit cards are widely accepted.
Laguages:
South Africa has eleven official languages, English is spoken widely all over the country.

Electricity:
Voltage in India is 220V with triple pole sockets. Adapter may be required.

Phone:
South Africa has got a very good telephone network. Foreign mobile phones do work well with roaming.

Time:
During the European summertime same time as in Europe, durinh winter -time, South Africa in one hour ahead.

Health:
There are no vaccines officially required by the government, while travelling from the EU.Standard vaccinations should be used. Please check for more details with your local government.
